Our story

Grown in Vientiane,
built for the Mekong.

MBX Robotics started as the robotics and electronics wing of Makerbox Lao — a maker-education studio that believes the best way to understand technology is to take it apart and rebuild it.

Why we exist

Hands-on beats hand-me-down

Robotics kits and imported tutorials rarely reflect the classrooms, budgets, or languages of Southeast Asia. We build our own curriculum, in Lao and English, using parts we can actually keep in stock.

That means workshops that run on locally available components, teacher training that assumes a real classroom rather than a lab, and an electronics counter that treats “we’re out of stock” as a problem to solve, not an excuse.

What we’re building toward

A regional maker network

MBX Robotics is one part of a bigger effort: connecting builders across Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia through shared events, shared parts catalogs, and a shared belief that the region should design its own tech future — not just consume it.

The Mekong Maker Faire, a rotating event across the four countries, is the clearest expression of that — and Vientiane is proud to host its first edition.

What we value

Four things we won’t compromise on

Curiosity first

Every session starts with a question, not a manual. Understanding beats memorizing steps.

Real craft

We teach the soldering iron and the debugger, not just the block-coding interface.

Local first

Lao-language materials, locally sourced parts, and prices that make sense in Vientiane.

Open community

Clubs, faires, and supply chains work better shared across borders than kept behind them.

How we got here

A short history

Makerbox Lao founded

Started as a small maker-education studio running robotics and electronics workshops in Vientiane.

Origin

Electronics supply counter opens

A dedicated stock of microcontrollers, sensors, and IoT parts, so local builders don’t wait on overseas shipping.

Growth

MBX Robotics brand launches

Robotics clubs, teacher training, and the electronics counter unite under the MBX Robotics identity.

Rebrand

Mekong Maker Faire announced

A rotating regional faire across Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia, with Vientiane hosting the first edition.
